Goddess Army

In 2022 I made Goddess Army, a collection of 13 hand sized, clay figures inspired by the Venus de Willendorf. These were exhibited as part of a group show by feminist art movement ?Collective to mark International Women’s Day.

I now think of them as a touring army as they have since been exhibited in The Pocket Gallery, Folkestone and then in a six month group show in 2023 at Canterbury Cathedral, a world heritage site, with the accompanying text:

Inspired by the Venus of Willendorf, this collection of pocket sized icons represent both the geological journeys prehistoric people took, taking their beliefs with them, and the continuing journey women face in their quest for equality.

These figures represent the beginnings of the physical work I have made in response to the Goddess research project I began in 2021.
