Welcome Flags

In 2021 I produced a community arts project with St Eanswythe’s primary school which culminated in a large-scale installation as part of Creative Folkestone’s Pioneering Places Project, which ran alongside the Folkestone Triennial.

Each child in the school took part and their brief was to create pictures of their favourite places in Folkestone. These pictures were then turned into flags and installed on the Old Gasworks site, an industrial area that has laid derelict for nearly 70 years and is now earmarked for development with housing and community spaces.

Inspired by Tibetan Prayer flags, this project was designed to be a welcoming guide for new residents to the area. This was such a fabulous project to work on and I would like to facilitate more projects like this in the future.
